...sign of our times...

Upon being handed a journal as a gift, a nine year-old asks his mom what it was. The mom says that it was a notebook to record his thoughts and feelings, every day. The kid replies, "You mean, it is a blog...on paper." Reader's Digest, Oct 2008 issue

How did Ganesha get a head?

Once when Parvati learned that her son was dead, she created many Shaktis (strong gods) which the normal gods (Indra and the others) got terrified by. So, Brahma and Vishnu apologized to her and promised that they would go north and bring any head available. They brought the head of an elephant which had only one tusk. They fixed the head on the boy who got killed by Shiva. Brahma sprinkled holy water and brought the dead boy back to life and showed to Parvati.

Parvati was so happy that she thanked them. She then asked Shiva what this boy’s status among the gods would be. Shiva said that he would be the queller of obstacles and his name was Ganesha.
